This course is designed to give managers, HR professionals and team leaders a clear understanding of the rules, procedures and legislation they need to manage tense disciplinary situations professionally. It is designed as a one-day interactive workshop with a confidential forum for discussion, role-play and confidence-building.
Aims and Objectives
This course aims to provide those in a management position with the skills they need to manage disciplinary issues within the workplace professionally and within the law.

Prerequisites
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, learners are expected to have a good understanding of both spoken and written English.
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for anyone in a management or leadership position who may be involved in disciplinary procedures.
Content
The course is divided into five modules, followed by a group exercise including a discussion, a focus on case studies and a number of role-plays.
The modules are:
- Relevant Legislation and What the Law Requires
This module covers the current legislation regarding disciplinary action as well as the role of ACAS and their Code of Conduct.
- Disciplinary Policies and Procedures
This module looks at the purpose of disciplinary procedures, levels of disciplinary action and what constitutes misconduct or gross misconduct.
- Preparing for Disciplinary Hearings
This module runs through the processes of conducting investigations, obtaining witness statements and preparing a case.
- Conducting Disciplinary Hearings
In this module, subjects covered include how to choose a venue, taking notes and dealing with emotionally fraught situations, as well as the role of the representative and the importance of confidentiality.
- Employee Rights
The final module focuses on the rights of the individual employee during the disciplinary process, including their right to be accompanied and their right to appeal, as well as how to give an adequate notice of a disciplinary procedure.
