CITB - Health & Safety Awareness Combined Course (includes Health, Safety Environment CSCS Test)
This combined Site Safety Plus package is a popular route for anyone looking to take their first step towards obtaining a CSCS Labourers (Green) Card. This 1 day course can be for those who have entered, or about to enter, the construction and civil engineering industry. The course gives delegates an awareness of health and safety and how it affects their daily role and provides the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Test, which delegates must also pass to acquire the CSCS Labourers (Green) card.
Description
CITB funding is available for this course - per person, per day – for ALL registered companies. The test is NOT included within this ATO funding and this will need to be booked separately for delegates to acquire their CSCS Labourers (Green) card.
Overview
The course is designed for all those entering the construction and civil engineering industries, and covers a wide range of issues relating to health and safety on site. It is a requirement when applying for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and is an ideal alternative route to the QCF Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.

The course covers a number of subjects related to health and safety, including:
- General responsibilities
- Accident reporting and recording
- Health and welfare
- Respiratory risks (dust and fumes)
- Manual handling
- Working at height
- Personal protective equipment
- First aid and emergency procedures
- Fire prevention and control
- Hazardous substances
- Electrical safety and hand-held tools and equipment
- Noise and vibration
- Site transport safety
- Excavations
- Confined spaces
- Safety signs and signals
- The day concludes with a multiple-choice examination and course review.
Course Benefits
At the end of the day each delegate will be able to understand the need to prevent accidents, as well as the need for risk assessments and method statements. They will be able to identify how their role fits into the control and management of the site and appreciate the need to perform safely, to stop and ask for advice if not sure, and to report unsafe acts to prevent accidents.
Certification
This course is ideal for those wishing to obtain an industry accreditation card. It also acts as an alternative route to the QCF Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment for the CSCS Labourer card.
After completing this course and test you will then be able to apply for your CSCS.
Please note: From 7th December 2020, the CITB are no longer sending out hard copy certificates for candidates. You will, therefore, receive your certificate by email, if you complete and pass the course.
Prerequisites
1. For the Test
1.1 If any of the details on your confirmation letter or email are incorrect, you must contact the OMS Training Team on 01530 833533 immediately.
2. Admission Policy
2.1 It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that he or she arrives at the Test Centre 30 minutes before the Test time.
OMS will accept no responsibility for candidates who arrive late or fail to arrive due to adverse weather conditions, failure of transport or any other circumstance and you may not be permitted to carry out your test.
3. Identification Requirements
3.1 Candidates are required to bring one form of identification from the list below, bearing a photograph and signature.
- A valid passport of any nationality with a photograph of the candidate and their signature – must be no more than 6 months out of date.
- A valid UK only driving licence with a photograph of the candidate and the candidate’s signature – must be no more than 6 months out of date.
3.2 If a candidate does not have one of these, he or she will need two items of valid ID (no more than 6 months out of date), one from List A and one from List B below:

3.3 Photocopies of ID will not be accepted.
3.4 You must bring with you your national insurance card or a document with your national insurance number on.

Please note all candidates are required to sign to accept the stated Terms and Conditions prior to taking the test, in addition to the candidates photograph being taken at the Test Centre.
If you do not bring suitable ID, you will not be allowed to take the test.
4. Special Assistance
4.1 All special assistance such as readers, interpreters and signers must be arranged in advance either online at Book, cancel or reschedule your test online or through our Training Team on 01530 833533 for all test types.
4.2 If candidates have difficulty in reading, all test stations have headphones which will allow the candidate to hear a voiceover of the Test in English. Candidates should notify the Test Centre staff on arrival that they need to use these. The Training team will explain to the candidates how the Test will be conducted.
4.3 If candidates have requested a reader, interpreter or signer, or other special assistance, it will be shown in the ‘Special Assistance’ section on the candidate’s confirmation letter or email. If the candidate needs special assistance and it is not shown, please contact 01530 833533.
5. Revision Materials
5.1 Revision material is available to purchase in book and electronic formats for all Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test types from www.citb.co.uk/hsanderevision or alternatively by calling 0344 994 4488.

5.2 Module-specific factsheets are available for the CPCS renewal test, which cover all the subject areas included within the test. CPCS factsheets are available free-of-charge and can be viewed and downloaded from www.citb.co.uk/cpcsdownloads.
5.3 To help prepare for the Triple bar nuclear new build sites test (“TBNNBS”), please ensure that you access and complete the e-learning training material at least three days prior to taking the test. This e-learning is available at www.nucleartrainingnetwork.com.
