CITB - SMSTS Site Management Safety Training Scheme
Health and Safety is of paramount importance on site, and ensuring that your employees are protected from harm is one of the primary duties for those in an on-site management position. The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Site Safety Plus course is designed to cover all aspects of health and safety on site. The course is recognised by The United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG) as meeting the requirement for all managers working on UKCG sites. CITB funding is available for this course - per person, per day – for ALL registered companies.

Overview
The CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Site Safety Plus course is a five-day course that covers the knowledge and skills required to ensure healthy and safe conditions for workers on site. It is designed to meet the required standard for all managers working on UKCG sites.
Aims and Objectives
This course is designed to provide project managers, site managers, supervisors, proprietors and client-based personnel with the knowledge they need to ensure healthy and safe conditions for construction site employees.
Duration
5 days.
Prerequisites
Please note that each delegate is required to bring with them the following: Photo ID, Date of Birth, National Insurance Number and current CITB card (if applicable).
Who Should Attend
This course is ideal for all people responsible for construction site management, including project managers, site managers, business proprietors and supervisors, as well as client-based personnel tasked with ensuring that health and safety standards are met on site.

This in-depth course covers the following areas:
- The Health and Safety at Work Act
- Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations
- Risk assessments/method statements
- Recent changes in accepted working practices
- Behavioural safety
- Management of occupational health
- Electricity
- Excavations
- Working at height
- Scaffolding
- Demolition
- Confined spaces
The course is highly interactive, involving case studies, discussion, group work and individual/group presentations. It will also require some self-study and features continual assessment. The course concludes with a multiple-choice test.

Certification
Upon successfully completing the course, delegates will be awarded a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate.
This qualification must be renewed every five years by attending the SMSTS Refresher course.
Please note: From 7th December 2020, the CITB are no longer sending out hard copy certificates for candidates. You will, therefore, receive your certificate by email, if you complete and pass the course.
