It combines extensive coverage of the main legal requirements for occupational safety in the UK with an outline of common workplace hazards and how to tackle them.

Duration
This is a 5-day course plus an Open Book Examination.
Prerequisites
The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is open to all and does not require any previous accreditation. However, learners are expected to have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
Who Should Attend
This course is ideal for those either currently in or aspiring to management and supervisory positions related to health and safety on construction sites. It is also recommended for supervisors and managers working in other industries where temporary workplaces are a feature of their activities.
Content
This is part 1 of the NEBOSH General Certificate and is required, alongside GC2 for delegates to achieve the full qualification.
This course covers a single Unit - NG1, this module covers the management of health and safety and features the following topics:
NG1 – Management of Health & Safety (Elements 1-4)
- Why we should manage workplace health and safety
- How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
- Managing risk – understanding people and processes
- Health and safety monitoring and measuring.

Assessment
Assessment will be by one Open Book Examination.
From August 2020, NEBOSH examinations for the National General Certificate will be carried on your own, usually in your own home or another safe and suitable location where you can concentrate.
You will have access to the exam at 9am on the day and you will have up to 24 hours to complete your paper - though you should be able to complete the examination in 4-5 hours. Unlike the previous exam, you will be presented with a scenario that describes a realistic workplace and situation. You will then be asked to carry out a series of tasks using evidence presented in the scenario as well as the underpinning knowledge you have gained through your studies and revision.
Certification
The examinations are assessed and moderated by NEBOSH. Successful learners will gain part 1 of the NEBOSH National General Certificate. Holders of the certificate will be one unit away from completion of the full NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

Additional Extras
OMS offer a NEBOSH Revision Day for learners closer to the exam to go through an last minute issues or areas of concern. To attend this its an additional £50(+VAT)
