Duration
This is a 10 day-course, split into 5 x 2 day modules, plus an open book examination and an extended practical risk assessment.

Course Content
The National General Certificate is divided into two units, each of which is assessed separately:
• Management of health and safety (NG1)
• Control of workplace hazards (NG2)
NGC1 – Management of Health & Safety
• Why we should manage workplace health and safety
• How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
• Managing risk – understanding people and processes
• Health and safety monitoring and measuring
NGC2 – Control of Workplace Risks
• Physical and psychological health hazards and risk control.
• Musculoskeletal health
• Chemical and biological agents
• General Workplace issues
• Work equipment
• Fire safety.
Pre-Requisites
Learners are expected to have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

Assessment
Assessment will be by one Open Book Examination and an extended risk assessment practical.
From August 2020, NEBOSH examinations for the National General Certificate will be carried on your own, usually in your own home or another safe and suitable location where you can concentrate.
You will have access to the exam at 9am on the day and you will have up to 24 hours to complete your paper - though you should be able to complete the examination in 4-5 hours. Unlike the previous exam, you will be presented with a scenario that describes a realistic workplace and situation. You will then be asked to carry out a series of tasks using evidence presented in the scenario as well as the underpinning knowledge you have gained through your studies and revision.
You will also be required to carry out a practical risk assessment assignment and action report carried out in the delegates workplace.
Certification
The examination and assessment are assessed and moderated by NEBOSH. Successful learners will gain the full NEBOSH National General Certificate.
Holders of the National General Certificate are entitled to Associate Membership (AIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The qualification also meets the academic requirements for Technical Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH and Associate Membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).
The NEBOSH National General Certificate has been accredited and credit rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). It sits in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at SCQF Level 6 with 15 SCQF credit points.
Additional Extras
OMS offer a NEBOSH Revision Day for learners closer to the exam to go through an last minute issues or areas of concern. To attend this its an additional £50(+VAT)
