NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation
On completion of this qualification you will be equipped with the necessary skills to carry out an unaided incident investigation of a non complex incident. The qualification will take you through the four steps to a good incident investigation. This includes providing you with the skills required to identify the immediate, underlying and root causes of incidents.
Description
Witness interviewing is a valuable skill for an incident investigator. The qualification, therefore, introduces you to the PEACE model for interviewing. Once you have gained an understanding of the PEACE process you will be able to apply this to an incident interview which is part of your final assessment.

Who should attend
This qualification is aimed at managers, supervisors, SHE Champions, union representatives and aspiring health and safety practitioners. It would not be suitable for current health and safety practitioners.
Objectives
The qualification is aimed at managers, supervisors, SHE Champions, union representatives and aspiring health and safety practitioners. On completion of the qualification, candidates will be able to:
• carry out a solo accident investigation for non complex accidents and incidents including:
- Gathering of evidence
- Analysis of that evidence
• produce an action plan; and
• contribute to team incident investigations for large-scale incidents.

Pre-Requisites
Learners are expected to have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
Students will be required to undertake three hours of pre-course reading before the course commences. Some suggestions for this pre-course reading include:
• Reading and understanding the requirements of their organisation’s incident investigation policy;
• reviewing a sample of their organisation’s previous incident investigation reports to find what lessons have been learnt; and
• reviewing some of the incident investigation case studies from the HSE’s website that may be relevant to their organisation - ww.hse.gov.uk/slips/casestudies.htm
Price
The cost from OMS will include all NEBOSH Exam Fees, Workbooks, trainer lead classrooms either virtual or an agreed location, access to our online NEBOSH Community Platform and also the opportunity to sit the classroom again on one of our open courses FOC if in the unfortunate situation you fail one of your exams.
Assessment
The assessment should normally take place after the taught content for Element 1.4 and will be in the form of a case study investigation and production of an action plan based on the scenario and will incorporate all the subjects taught.
Certification
Once completed and assessed as passed a parchment certificate is issued within 40 working days of the result declaration date by NEBOSH.
