Overview
The NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management – Full qualification (inc NGC1) course covers 3 modules which are the fundamental topics of health and safety management and fire safety, as well as the current legislation and legal requirements. It outlines the principles and risks relating to fire and explosion, as well as the common causes of fire and preventative measures. In addition, the course will detail how to ensure the safety of people in the event of fire, as well as how to undertake fire risk assessments in most low-risk workplaces.
Aims and Objectives
This course aims to provide a fundamental understanding of health and safety management along with the skills and knowledge required for all those responsible for fire safety in their workplace. It provides an overview of fire legislation, risks, causes and preventative measures, as well as how to ensure the safety of people in the event of fire.
Duration
This is a 10 day qualification including final examinations.
Prerequisites
Learners are expected to have completed some health and safety training at supervisory/management level within the last five years. They are also expected to have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for all those in a position of responsibility for fire safety in the workplace. It is particularly relevant for newcomers to health and safety responsibilities, as well as those who are moving to fire safety advisory roles.
Content
The course consists of three units, each separately assessed.
Unit NGC1 covers the management of health and safety and features the following topics:
- Foundations in Health and Safety
- Health and Safety Management Systems – Plan
- Health and Safety Management Systems – Do
- Health and Safety Management Systems – Check
- Health and Safety Management Systems – Act
The first unit (FC1) focuses on fire safety and risk management, and includes the following subjects:
- Managing Fire Safety
- Principles of Fire and Explosion
- Causes and Prevention of Fires and Explosions
- Fire Protection in Buildings
- Safety of People in the Event of Fire
- Fire Safety Risk Assessment
The second unit (FC2) outlines the practical application of fire safety knowledge as outlined earlier in the course, and is assessed via a practical assessment.
