Emergency First Aid for Schools

This specially designed programme has been adapted from the HSE Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course to meet the needs of people who work within a school setting. The course follows the syllabus set by the Health & Safety Executive and is delivered in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice L74 for training of candidates in first aid for low risk environments.

Overview

The Worksafe Emergency First Aid for Schools training course has been specially designed to meet the needs of people who work within a school setting. It contains all content from the 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work course and also includes additional subjects considered essential to the school environment.

Aims and Objectives

This course aims to equip people working in schools with specifically relevant first aid knowledge and skills.

Duration

This is a one-day course.

Prerequisites

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, learners are expected to have a good understanding of both spoken and written English.

Who Should Attend

Anyone who is a first aider working in a school setting.

Content

The syllabus includes all content from the 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work course and includes additional subjects likely to be faced by first aiders working within a school.

The core content covers the basic essentials required to provide emergency care to a patient including:

  • The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  • The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  • The recognition and treatment of a person in seizure.
  • The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • The ability to recognise and safely treat a patient who is choking.
  • The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding.
  • The keeping of simple records following an accident at work.

Additional subjects make this course more relevant than the standalone EFAW course. The additional subjects which are included in the EFAW for Schools course are:

  • Asthma
  • Allergic Reaction
  • Resuscitation and Choking for Children

Certification

Similar courses

When a heart attack occurs, a defibrillator can save lives. In fact, prompt and proper use by a first responder is recognised by the Resuscitation Council (UK) as the best way to increase the chances of survival. This refresher course will need to be taken no later than the expiry date of your last course taken. If this date has passed then you no longer qualified to hold the qualification and a re-qualification course may not be open to you due to timescales. Please check with your previous accrediting body. Proof of prior certification is required for this course.
