IPAF MEWPs for Managers

This course is designed for all those who are responsible for management or supervision of responsible for preparing and coordinating work with mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs). The course outlines current legislation and details of different types and classifications of MEWPs, as well as the importance of correct machine selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The course culminates in a theory test.

Overview

This course is for supervisors and managers responsible for preparing and coordinating work with mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) within their control. The course covers areas such as current legislation, different types of MEWPs and how to select them, guidance on safe use and operation, and how to identify misuse and abuse of these platforms.

Aims and Objectives

This course aims to equip managers and supervisors with the knowledge and skills they need for preparing and coordinating the use of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), as well as making them aware of relevant legislation and how to perform risk assessments and method statements.

Duration

This is a one-day course.

Prerequisites

As assembly and use of MEWPs can be physically demanding, attendees should be physically fit and in good health and should generally not suffer from problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights/vertigo, balance problems, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence, or psychiatric illness. In addition, attendees should have a good understanding of both written and spoken English.

Candidates are expected to bring the following:

  • Full body harness
  • Hi-visibility vest/jacket
  • Hard hat
  • Safety boots
  • Safety glasses/goggles

Other PPE will be issued during the practical session as required. Required PPE will also be available for purchase on the day.

The course culminates in a theory test (pass or fail).

Certification

Successful attendees will receive an IPAF-accredited certificate of attendance.
