NRSWA Streetworks Unit 10 - Supervisor Monitoring Signing, Lighting and Guarding

In this course, previously known as unit 10, we review the supervision of setting out traffic lights, signs, cones and barriers for temporary Streetworks, in compliance with NRSWA. The course reviews the decision-making process for designing temporarily Streetworks, as well as how to manage the setup of such works and dealing with conflicts and disagreements. Please note that this course does not certify candidates to undertake the setting out of signing, lighting and guarding of temporary street works.

Description

Overview

The City & Guilds Streetworks Excavation & Reinstatement (6156) Unit 230 (often known as Cat & Genny) is designed to make candidates aware of the dangers involved in excavating on public highways and private land and train them to detect and avoid most buried apparatus.

This course is designed to certificated successful candidates to supervise (monitor) the setting out of traffic lights, signs, cones and barriers. The course covers a number of areas, including production of a detailed plan for unintended side, and the decision making process in creating and carrying out a plan.

Please note that this course does not certify candidates to undertake the setting out of signing, lighting and guarding of temporary street works.

This course aims to educate and certificated successful candidates to supervise the setting out of temporary street works, in accordance with the NRSWA guidelines.

Prerequisites

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, learners are expected to have a good understanding of both spoken and written English.

Candidates are expected to bring the following:

  • Full body harness
  • Hi-visibility vest/jacket
  • Hard hat
  • Safety boots
  • Safety glasses/goggles

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for operatives with prior experience of street working.

Content

This course covers a number of areas, including site planning, decision-making and remedial action, and background knowledge regarding the layout of traffic lights, cones and barriers in the setup of temporary street works.

Course Benefits

At the end of this course, successful delegates will be able to:

  • Provide detailed plans for an intended site, showing all distances and dimensions in accordance with the Safety at Streetworks & Road Works Code of Practice.
  • Be able to make formative decisions and recommend remedial action from a given plan
  • Observe an operative surveying a work site, and record observations and remedial action is required from the site plan
  • Explain any remedial action required

Certification

Learners will be given a Certificate of Attendance on successful completion of the course.

This course, previously known as unit 02 is designed to ensure that candidates are able to carry out daily tasks in writing and guarding systems, to enable trainees take adequate measures to minimise inconvenience to the general public during street works. It covers a number of areas including planning and positioning, as well as understanding of safety zones and pedestrian walkbys. Please note that this course does not certify candidates to supervise setting out of signing, lighting and guarding.
