NRSWA Streetworks Unit 2 – Operative Signing, Lighting and Guarding
This course, previously known as unit 02 is designed to ensure that candidates are able to carry out daily tasks in writing and guarding systems, to enable trainees take adequate measures to minimise inconvenience to the general public during street works. It covers a number of areas including planning and positioning, as well as understanding of safety zones and pedestrian walkbys. Please note that this course does not certify candidates to supervise setting out of signing, lighting and guarding.

Overview
The City & Guilds Streetworks Excavation & Reinstatement (6156) Unit 222 is designed for minimising inconvenience during the course of street works, and maintaining a safe environment for the general public, pedestrians and motor vehicles is a key part of managing street works. In this course, we will cover all the essentials candidates need to know to set out advance signing, safety zones and pedestrian walkways. The course will require delegates to demonstrate positioning, testing, adjusting, commissioning and decommissioning temporarily traffic signals, as well as producing plans of an intended site to show positions of signs and traffic signals. The course culminates with a questionnaire to demonstrate knowledge of the subject.

Prerequisites
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, learners are expected to have a good understanding of both spoken and written English.
Candidates are expected to bring the following:
- Full body harness
- Hi-visibility vest/jacket
- Hard hat
- Safety boots
- Safety glasses/goggles

This course is ideal for those with responsibility for laying out street works and maintaining a safe working environment which protects the general public.
Content
This course covers the steps required to produce plans of street works sites, including positioning of science, guarding and traffic signals. It will focus on necessary sequences for setting out signing, as well as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Evidence from the workplace must be signed by a suitably qualified person and returned to the assessment centre for validation before registering candidates.

Learners will be given a Certificate of Attendance on successful completion of the course.
