Ladder Association - Ladder User

Based on guidance from the UK’s leading experts on ladder manufacture, maintenance and safety, this course from the Ladder Association scheme addresses issues raised by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, as well as the Work at Height Regulations 2005. This course will ensure that delegates have knowledge and instructions required to use and select ladders and stepladders legally and safely.

Overview

This half-day course is designed for anyone who uses ladders or stepladders as part of their daily work, and consists of a number of practical and theory assessments which cover related legislation and regulations, as well as looking at potential hazards and skills in assessing risks, planning and maintaining ladders.

Aims and Objectives

This course is designed to enable delegates to:

  • Select the appropriate equipment for working at height
  • Assess and determine appropriate use of ladders and stepladders
  • Correctly locate and safely use ladders and stepladders
  • Inspect ladders and stepladders for damage prior to use.

Duration

This is a half-day course.

Prerequisites

Learners are expected to have a good understanding of both spoken and written English.

Candidates are expected to bring the following:

  • Rigger gloves
  • Hi-visibility vest/jacket
  • Hard hat
  • Safety boots
  • Safety Glasses/goggles.

Other PPE will be issued during the practical session as required. Required PPE will also be available for purchase on the day.

Learners will be given a Certificate of Attendance on successful completion of the course.

The Ladder Association now offer their workbooks online and you will receive an electronic copy of this for your course.  If you would prefer to receive a hard copy workbook on the day, we can provide these for you for an additional price of £5 (+VAT) per workbook.

Similar courses

It is well-known that misuse of ladders are a common hazard for causing injury to workers. This course is designed to outline the legislation around the use of ladders and how to inspect, register and use ladders to protect, inspect and operate safely. In order to take this course, the Ladder Association’s Ladder User Course must have been completed and passed before attempting the Ladder Association’s Ladder Inspection Course you must hold a valid Ladder Association identity card.
