Ladder Association - Ladder Inspection

It is well-known that misuse of ladders are a common hazard for causing injury to workers. This course is designed to outline the legislation around the use of ladders and how to inspect, register and use ladders to protect, inspect and operate safely. In order to take this course, the Ladder Association’s Ladder User Course must have been completed and passed before attempting the Ladder Association’s Ladder Inspection Course you must hold a valid Ladder Association identity card.

Overview

In order to take this course, the Ladder Association’s Ladder User Course must have been completed and passed before attempting the Ladder Association’s Ladder Inspection Course you must hold a valid Ladder Association identity card.

This course is designed to cover legislation regarding the use of ladders, as well as hazards this may cause. This course outlines how to record details of ladders, as well as how to inspect them to ensure safety and to record your findings.

Aims and Objectives

This course aims to inform delegates and help them to understand the risks of use of ladders, as well as detailing necessary skills for inspection and detail recording. It also aims to provide an understanding of proven codes of practice and relevant legislation.

This course aims to enable delegates to:

  • Accurately Record Details of Ladders
  • Identify Component Parts using Industry-standard Naming Conventions
  • Thoroughly Inspect Ladders and Stepladders, and Identify Safety-critical Faults
  • Record their Findings in Accordance with Statutory Requirements
  • Recommend Action to be Taken if Faults Found.

 

Duration

This course runs as a half-day session.

Prerequisites

In order to take this course, the Ladder User Course must have been completed and passed before attempting the Ladder Inspection Course.

Learners are expected to have a good understanding of both spoken and written English.

Candidates are expected to bring the following:

  • Rigger Gloves
  • Hi-visibility Vest/Jacket
  • Hard Hat
  • Safety Boots
  • Safety Glasses/Goggles

Other PPE will be issued during the practical session as required. Required PPE will also be available for purchase on the day.

  • Legal requirements and Guidance
  • Initial Inspection
  • Asset Register
  • Inspection Procedures
  • Inspection Documentation
  • Manufacturing Techniques
  • Maintenance/Repairs
  • Disposal
  • Theory and Practical Tests.

Course Benefits

On successful completion, delegates will receive a certificate, and a Ladder Association photography identity card. In addition, delegates will have an understanding of:

  • The relevant legislation and guidance and approved Code of Practice (ACOPs)
  • The difference between pre-use and formal inspections
  • Common manufacturing processes used, and their implications
  • The difference between maintenance and repairs and who is allowed to do them
  • The correct methods of disposal of equipment at the end of its working life

 

Certification

Learners will be given a Certificate of Attendance on successful completion of the course.
