ELCAS Package 6 - City & Guilds NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice

This improved Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is ideal for learners who wish to demonstrate and develop their skills and knowledge in managing health and safety for the workplace. It allows learners to develop and demonstrate the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the occupational health and safety sector. The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice can be used as entrance to IOSH Graduate Membership.

Duration

On average it may take delegates between 15-18 months to complete this qualification. Additional support can be provided, after 18 months, to complete the programme if delegates are yet to complete (note that the assessment for unit 605 Professional development and ethics in health and safety practice requires evidence to be collected over a period of 12 months).

Pre-Requisites

City & Guilds does not set entry requirements for this qualification. However, centres must ensure that candidates have the potential and opportunity to gain the qualification successfully. City & Guilds cannot accept any registrations for candidates aged under 19 years.   It is beneficial for the students to already have acquired the NEBOSH General qualification.

Learners should have an autonomous role in their organisation for managing health and safety policy and practice. They will report direct to or be part of the senior management team. Learners will recommend and implement changes relevant to their role. They will be aware of cost implications and budgetary control.

Programme Content

To achieve the Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice, learners must achieve all units in the qualification:

601     Health and safety emergency procedures

602     Health and safety audits

603     A positive health and safety culture in an organisation

604     Organisational health and safety policy

605     Professional development and ethics in health and safety practice

606     Systems monitoring and risk control

607     Organisational health and safety strategy.

Programme Materials

All programme materials required are provided and will be made available to you, via our e-portfolio portal, once you have enrolled on the programme. The programme is designed to be extremely flexible, and it is up to you how quickly you progress. Our tutorial team are all expert health and safety consultants, who have experience of implementing health and safety every day with clients as well as delivering NEBOSH training and providing learning support.

Location

As the qualification is primarily work based, your NVQ can be taken anywhere in the world. Induction sessions and opportunities to meet the assessment/support team will mostly take place via videocall.

Assessment & Induction

An initial assessment of each candidate is required before the start of your programme.

 We also require every candidate to complete the Self-Assessment and Personal Action Plan before proceeding with this qualification. When you have completed the form you will have identified any training that you need in order to complete all of the units. If your job involves all of the required units, you are competent in all areas and evidence is easy to provide, you are ready to start your NVQ. If there are any training needs, you need to develop a plan with your manager to gain competence in the area(s) before attempting the unit(s).  To achieve this qualification, learners must:

  • Complete an online portfolio of evidence covering all the assessment criteria for each mandatory unit;
  • Successfully complete an assignment for unit 605 Professional development and ethics in health and safety practice.  This assignment covers the skills and knowledge within the unit.

Certification

On completion of the units, candidates will be awarded a certificate to demonstrate competence to the national standard i.e. City and Guilds Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. The certificate details all individual units completed as part of the overall programme.
