Ensuring the safe reversal of large vehicles is a crucial part of any construction environment. This course is designed to deliver practical knowledge and training to those who are responsible for reversing operations. It covers all relevant legislation, recommended hand signals and will equip attendees with the ability to identify areas of danger.

Managing and lifting operations are a big part of any construction environment, and also potentially the most dangerous. This course is designed to deliver ‘hands-on’ knowledge and training to attendees with responsibility for the safe use of lifting equipment on site. It covers the relevant legislation as well as force influences and the physics behind lifting equipment, as well as how to choose the correct lifting equipment, use appropriate hand signals and carries out pre-inspections.

Aims and Objectives

This course aims to provide delegates with the essential knowledge needed to meet legal requirements and reduce risk when carrying out reversing manoeuvres. By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Know and understand the roles of the vehicle driver and the banksman/ reversing assistant in reversing operations
  • Identify areas of danger within sites
  • Understand the key issues arising out of reversing and manoeuvring;Identify areas of danger for reversing vehicles
  • Demonstrate recommended HSE code of signals and reversing procedure

 

Duration

This is a half-day course.

Prerequisites

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, learners are expected to have a good understanding of both spoken and written English.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for those who have, or want to have, practical ‘hands-on’ knowledge of lifting and slinging, as well as those who have responsibility for legal equipment on site. It is therefore suitable for any bandsman or reversing assistant (yard person) responsible for assisting in the manoeuvring and loading/unloading of vehicles. Those who are involved with vehicle movements in factory yards warehouses, loading bays and storage depots.

This course covers a range of topics:

  • Delegates will have the competence required to reverse or manoeuvre vehicles by signals either individually or as a team
  • HGV reversing operations will be carried out in a competent way
  • Reduction of risk of injury to staff and members of the public
  • Reduced vehicle and property damage caused by reversing vehicles

Certification

A Certificate of Attendance will be issued upon the successful completion of the course. This will be valid for 5 years.
