City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT) (2377-77)
The course is based on the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment – 5th Edition - and explains the necessity for appliance testing, how it should be implemented and managed and how the actual inspection and testing should be carried out correctly. The course runs over two days, with the assessment being carried out in the afternoon of the second day. The course is both practical and theory based.

Outline
This qualification is aimed at those with responsibilities for the maintenance of electrical equipment and for those undertaking practical inspection and testing of electrical equipment. It allows those with the responsibility for the testing and inspection of electrical equipment to gain a qualification suitable to their job role.
Course Content
- Equipment construction & classification of electrical equipment
- User checks
- Formal visual Inspection
- Combined inspection and testing (including PAT Testing)
- Test equipment
- Recording of results for auditing and referencing
- Frequency of inspection and testing, and risk assessment
- Procedures for damaged & faulty equipment
- The requirement of extension leads
- Information technology equipment (I.T).
Programme Materials
All students must be using and must bring with them, their own IET Code of Practice for In Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment 5th edition.
Assessment
You will sit a 1 ¾ hour, multiple choice online examination, using the City & Guilds evolve platform.
There will also be a practical assessment, demonstrating the ability to safely conduct inspection and testing on items of electrical equipment.
Certification
On completion of the training and successfully passing, the delegate will be awarded a City and Guilds Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (2377-77) certificate.

All delegates will need to bring with them IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment - 5th Edition. OMS can provide this for you for an additional cost of £60 (+VAT).
Prerequisites
City & Guilds does not set entry requirements for this qualification. However, it is expected that candidates attempting the qualification should be familiar with electrical systems and hazards of electricity in order to satisfactorily complete the qualification. Attendees must also be a minimum of 18 years old.
